About the staff

Susan is the owner and executive manager of English Advantage, responsible for all aspects of the business. She has a B.A. in English and Education from Illinois State University and an M.A. in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) from the University of Illinois. She graduated with highest honors. She is a creative veteran teacher who taught ten years at universities and has extensive experience delivering instruction in corporate settings. She has also taught at community colleges, in adult education programs, at middle and high schools, and in one-on-one settings to native and non-native speakers of English. Before becoming director of English Advantage, Susan spent 16 years as executive manager and co-owner of Englishworks,Inc.

Along with her managerial duties, Susan continues to teach.  She enjoys providing quality instruction and services to learners of all ages. She works hard to make sure clients are getting the information, skills, and practice they need to succeed. Among her key strengths are explaining complex material in ways that learners can easily understand and providing creative techniques for overcoming challenging skills and concepts.  Susan has authored hundreds of pages of copyrighted teaching materials. She writes engaging course content that enhances the learning experience for both native and non-native speakers of English. She is the in-house writing consultant and editor for many clients and colleagues and received the 2017 Scholastic Art and Writing Award for her work with students selected for national honors.

Our staff is a dedicated group of talented teachers who give clients their very best.  Together we have over 75 years of teaching experience.
